Saturday. Preparations

Shurik

Saturday, before leaving went and bought a pair off skis for Princess, boots and poles included, then went to pick up the van. Rental place wanted to trick us into Dodge Caravan, but methodical Princess came back and ask for the listed Toyota Sienna, there was one just coming in and we got it. Journey begins.

I should say that 8 passenger van, Sienna especially, is a marvel. Both rear seats coupled with sleeping bags, pads, etc. make 2 "queen" beds. Rear one is short, but just enough for kids.

I was quite startled when realized how much equipment we have to load iinto the van before leaving, and was quite nervous, insisting on leaving some stuff home. Nevertheless, most of thing, skis and boots included fit just fine, so the roof cargo bag, peacefully went back to Walmart. Video camera and some pastries, however, were left at home, which made Princess somewhat irritated.

About 10:30 pm, we have finally left for the West full of dreams and expectations. Four hour driving shifts were accepted as optimal, Masha and Natasha occupied pilot and navigator seats, so Princess and I gradually fell asleep.
